MANCHESTER, NH – Ear acupuncture will be offered at the New Hampshire State House Tuesday, March 13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The New England Public Health Acupuncture Network is hosting a Wellness Day to thank legislators for passing HB575: Certification of Acupuncture Rehabilitation Specialists. The law allows recovery professionals and other healthcare professionals to certify and train in the use of an ear acupuncture protocol for the treatment of substance abuse disorders , behavioral health, mental health and post-traumatic stress.

“New Hampshire lawmakers are the most educated lawmakers in the nation on the topic of atrial detoxification and acu wellness,” says Laura Cooley, acupuncturist and trainer with the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA). “In New Hampshire, we have raised the standard of what Acu Detox laws should be. We are pioneers for the nation. Twenty-five other states have laws that allow non-acupuncturists to practice auricular acupuncture, some are more flexible than others. In recent weeks, West Virginia House lawmakers have passed a similar bill based on HB 575. He will soon be heard in the State Senate.

Two auricular acupuncture trainings have been held in the Granite State since November. Nikki Casey, director of the Revive Recovery Center in Nashua, is one of New Hampshire’s first NADA interns.

“I had acupuncture when I was on a 28-day program in Manchester. It helped me sleep more peacefully and let go of any worries I had about my future. Casey says, “It’s essential that the recovery community has access to more tools like auricular acupuncture.”

The law went into effect on July 1, 2017. But recovery professionals and other medical professionals still cannot use auricular acupuncture because the rules have not been finalized by the Acupuncture Licensing Board. and the Joint Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules.
